Emotional Wellness is a state of complete:

  • Mental
  • Social wellbeing

And not merely the lack of disease or ill health. 

Emotional wellness requires an active pursuit of good health, peace of mind, and prosperity. 

To reach this, you must identify what you need to improve your quality of life.

Good things don’t always come your way, and that’s how life is. The situations you get into are sometimes out of your control, but your emotions and response are. 

Mastering your emotions is key to emotional wellbeing. Understanding how they arise will let you manage your emotions better.

To get a hold of your emotions, learn to accept it. Acceptance is your path to emotional wellbeing. 

Once you accept how you feel, you get to understand why you’re feeling that way; it also helps clear out your response to the situation you’re in.

  1. Environmental Wellness

Your environment is the surroundings or conditions in which you live. 

This dimension of holistic wellness is more of an extrinsic factor; it relates to how you sync with the environment. 

What you need to focus on here is how your lifestyle choices affect the environment. 

The world doesn’t revolve around you, so don’t just consider your own wellness. Have respect for the environment you live in. 

Essentially, your environment supports your life, so do your part and maintain a healthy environment for all.

  1. Financial Wellness

Money matters, you can’t live without money. 

Money plays a crucial role in how you live your life. 

Finances are some reasons you’re stressed. 

To be financially well, you must learn to manage your expenses base on the income you earn. 

Make it a habit to save money, just buy the things you really need. 

If you can’t avoid having debts, learn to manage your money well to pay them off in time. What’s important in financial wellness is your ability to manage what you have.

  1. Intellectual Wellness

Engaging in mentally stimulating activities is what intellectual wellness is all about. 

Your mind needs exercising, too; this is where expanding your knowledge and understanding comes into play. You can do this by doing the following activities:

  • Solving puzzles
  • Reading books
  • Enrolling in online courses, and many more. 

The need to stimulate your mental faculties depends on your need to satisfy your curiosity.

  1. Occupational Wellness

Your work time covers most of the time you spend on a day. 

It is important to find a career path where you find satisfaction despite the work-induced stresses that come with it. If your outlook on your work isn’t nice, then you might switch. 

For occupational wellness, career satisfaction and enrichment comes first. 

Focus on the roles you will take in the job and if you like what you will do. This isn’t just about getting paid, it’s about fulfilling your growth.

This pillar is probably the most recognized dimension of holistic wellness — physical wellness. 

Overall, physical wellness is about maintaining your physical health in top condition. 

To achieve this:

  • Incorporate regular exercise into your routine to put your body in tiptop shape.
  • Couple your exercises with a proper diet and you’re all good! 

Remember that you need a healthy lifestyle to avoid developing serious illnesses.

  1. Social Wellness

No one is an island. You can’t live without other people. You need to go along with society to live. 

Social wellness focuses on your external relationships with the people around you. Building healthy relationships with your family and friends can bring joy and happiness to your life. 

That sense of connection with others allows you to become comfortable with them, in turn boosting your self-esteem.

  1. Spiritual Wellness

Spirituality transcends the physical world, it goes beyond the tangibles. 

Spiritual wellness involves the recognition of a feeling or sense or belief that there is something greater than yourself. 

Spiritual wellness lets us find a deeper meaning in living. 

This can be through practicing religion or philosophy. It varies depending on your beliefs and your level of spirituality.
